The Art of Sewing

Thought I would check out the Time Life set "The Art of Sewing" since there was a comment on the blog about how great these book covers were too. These were the best pictures I could find. The photos below are via Hi+Low. You can see larger images there. Thanks for the tip Janet!

This Fabulous Century
I totally forgot all about these until I just downloaded the photos from my phone. Took these 1st 2 pictures a couple of weeks ago at the Vintage Collective in Long Beach. They are part of the Time Life book series "This Fabulous Century." The image on the bottom is another book from the set I found on the internet. They are cloth bound books with the most amazing patterns. Not really sure what is on the insides, but the covers sure are nice to look at!

Navajo Blankets

Thought I would continue on with blankets this week. These are Navajo Blankets that were on "Antiques Roadshow." The one above was valued at 350,000 - 500,000 in 2002. It is a First Phase Chief's Blanket, which means it was woven sometime in the mid 1800's. They were called Chief's Blankets because they were so expensive, only a chief or wealthy individuals could afford them. You can check out more about the blankets on the PBS site.

Jen Jones

These are blankets from the website Jen Jones Welsh Quilts and Blankets. I saw something about this site on the blog Fibercopia so I thought I would check it out. Lots of sweet blankets with lots of amazing colorways. Most of the blankets are from 1820 - 1939. We don't really need a blanket here right now, it was 80 degrees today. Might be worth checking out for those of you who have been snowed in back East.

Lucienne Day

It always happens in threes. Lucienne Day also passed away recently. I was reading my friend's blog, Grace Hilton, and found out the news. She was best know for her atomic age textile designs. Here are a few of her designs found at the V&A collection. If you like one you can order a print or a canvas at their site.

Stobo

Brian and I have been working on planning a trip to Scandinavia this Spring. Our friend is getting married in Copenhagen, so we thought we would hit a few other destinations along the way, one of them being Sweden. Loads of great textile design has come out of Sweden through the years. Here are a few examples from the 1950's. These were designed by the firm Stobo. These images were found at site Modernity. Check it out, lots of amazing Scandinavian vintage design to be had.
