Here are some stencils that Frank Lloyd Wright used in his home in Oak Park. These designs are by his one time employer and mentor Louis Sullivan, who was considered by many to be the father of the modern sky scraper.
We also went to Frank Lloyd Wright's Home and Studio in Oak Park while we were in Chicago. Here is a light screen that he designed for the children's playroom.
Brian and I took a tour of Frank Lloyd Wright's Robie House this past Sunday. Here are some images of the art glass. The last image is a reissue of one of the windows by Oakbrook Esser Studios. They are located in Wisconsin close to Spring Green. They were selected by the Frank Lloyd Wright foundation to reproduce his art glass and lighting designs.
Brian and I were in Chicago this past weekend. We checked out a couple of Frank Lloyd Wright houses. Thought I would post some of his textile designs today. These are all from a line he did for Schumacher in the mid Fifties. He was all about the total picture or maybe he was just a wee bit controlling. He would use his textiles for upholstery and drapes and sometimes he would even design clothing for his clients.
Here are some furniture pieces from Antique Alley. These would not quite fit in our suitcases, but we liked the patterns and details so we snapped a few shots.
Brian and I are in the Midwest and checked out "Antique Alley" today. It is old highway 40 that runs from the Western Ohio border to Indianapolis. We picked up some pieces for the collection and I also snapped some photos of some things that caught our eye. The picture above is of some vintage blankets. Below is a handmade seersucker blazer that looked like it was from the turn of the century. The 3rd photo is of an 1800's quilt and the last photo is a book cover.
I was looking for some more 70's stuff and happened upon these photos of a trip Keith Richards, Gram Parsons and Anita Pallenberg took to Joshua Tree in 1969. Found these images on "The Selvedge Yard." Looks like it should have been a photoshoot for this Fall.
Slacks. Let's bring that word back. Wide leg seventies inspired pants or shall I say "Slacks" are making a strong showing on the Spring 2011 Runways. The wider leg has been slowly working it's way back onto the scene, but this Spring it's a showdown. Look out skinny, your days may be numbered. Here are some images of patterns from the site Vintage Fashion Library.
Peter Jensen used 70's era actress Shelley Duvall for his Spring 2011 inspiration. Below is a shot from Robert Altman's "The Women" and also a shot from Woody Allen's "Annie Hall."
Marisa Berenson is another iconic woman who participated in Tom Ford's Spring showing. She was a top model in the 60's and 70's and went onto become an actress. She is the grand daughter of Elsa Schiaparelli.
Tom Ford debuted his women's collection this past Sunday to a no cameras allowed crowd. He interspersed women he has considered icons in his showing. One of them being Lauren Hutton. Here are some photos of her from the 60's and 70's.
Did some back to school shopping this weekend. Lots of plaid out there for Fall. Above is an ottoman that was reupholstered using a vintage plaid skirt. Below are a few vintage plaid skirts a la Mad Men.
